Proposed Committee Assignments for Mayor Dana York

As Mayor, Prof. Dana York will collaborate with all the other candidates, the NGO’s,  the New York City Council and seek committee alignments that reflect her legislative priorities in governance, education, health, housing, public safety, and cultural revitalization. This will be the city that respect everybody and don’t talk bad about anybody.

1. Finance & Budget Committee
Role: Ensure fiscal discipline and transparent use of city funds.

Focus: Federal grants, public-private partnerships, redirecting mayoral salary to community programs.

Legislative Aim: Establish a “Charity and Development Fund” financed through grants and private contributions, without burdening taxpayers.

2. Education Committee
Role: Advance education access and equity.

Focus: Creation of Community Computer & Learning Centers, universal digital literacy, free transportation and meals for students.

Legislative Aim: Pass a “Universal Learning Access Act” ensuring no child misses school for financial reasons.

3. Housing and Buildings Committee
Role: Address the housing crisis and homelessness.

Focus: Fast-track affordable housing using federal funds, support for homeless shelters, single mothers, and veterans.

Legislative Aim: Comprehensive Affordable Housing Act with housing audits and expansion of supportive housing.

4. Health Committee
Role: Strengthen public health and mental health infrastructure.

Focus: Free and low-cost clinics, mobile response teams, mental health outreach, PTSD and addiction recovery services.

Legislative Aim: Introduce a “Mental Health & Clean Streets Bill” tying health services to city beautification and job creation programs.

5. Public Safety Committee
Role: Restore order and safety on city streets.

Focus: Anti-drug enforcement, women’s safety, community-police partnerships, clean subways and public spaces.

Legislative Aim: Launch “Safe Streets for All” Program—integrating policing with volunteer community watch initiatives.

6. Cultural Affairs, Libraries & International Intergroup Relations Committee
Role: Protect and promote New York’s artistic and cultural heritage.

Focus: Restoration of Art Deco architecture, creation of Cultural Renaissance Centers, funding for local artists.

Legislative Aim: Pass a “Cultural Revitalization Act” uniting arts, heritage, and intergenerational cultural exchange.

7. Parks and Recreation Committee
Role: Expand green and safe community spaces.

Focus: Urban beautification, gardens, family-friendly parks, cultural events.

Legislative Aim: Establish “Community Unity Parks” that blend recreation, arts, and volunteer initiatives.

8. Immigration & Civil Rights Committee
Role: Ensure equality and inclusion for all New Yorkers.

Focus: Protect immigrant families, promote diversity, ensure equal opportunity in employment and education.

Legislative Aim: Pass an “Equal Respect Act” guaranteeing dignity and inclusion in all city services.
